Zee Goals

As promised, here is a list of my goals to be accomplished by Jan 1, 2011:

1. Make the entirety of my income off of music.
2. Get in shape.
3. Tour, record, and build up the band.
4. Rip the motherf#@!ing clown horn off the elotes/pork rind cart that insists on parking outside of my house whenever I finally have an opportunity to sleep in.

Oddly enough, item #1 will probably be easiest. Between working for NoVo and playing live band karaoke, the majority of my income is already based in music. However, I'd like to shift that to more original pursuits; making money off of the band and working more with the management/development side (as opposed to design) of NoVo.

Item #2 will be most difficult, and has plagued me for years. For this, I need to focus on a regular (and frequent) exercise plan, pay very close attention to what I eat on a daily basis (which includes turning calorie counting into a little math game [yes, I am a freaking nerd], stressing portion control, and not eating fast food even if I don't have time for a home-cooked meal), and worst/hardest/possibly impossible: quitting smoking.

#3 will be difficult, but most fun! More Maybenauts! More Sonnets! Woo! The Maybenauts' first EP is now tracked and ready for mixing, hopefully it will be released in January... then it's on to marketing, promoting, playing, touring, et cetera... AKA, the good parts. Also in the plan for this year is a few more shows with Daisun as The Sonnets and hopefully recording Vee's new tunes.

#4: Seriously. I will find him, and I will steal that f!@&ing horn.

Now, I should probably break these vague "accomplishment"-type goals down into manageable jobs for myself. I already have a mental list of these, so this is not too much of a stretch. I will use this as a guideline for my daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.

Daily:

• Update the Chicago Music Facebook page with local shows.
• Update statuses at least once on The Maybenauts' Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter pages.
• Check for updates on the music biz blogs I read daily.
• Play the calorie math game.
• Catalogue my daily activities/achievements in this blog.

Weekly:
• Write one new blog post for The Maybenauts blog.
• Write one new blog post for my own music biz blog (to be revealed eventually).
• Work out/play sports/go dancing at least 3 times.
• Do laundry.

Monthly:
• Find at least one new vehicle to promote The Maybenauts, be it social networking, merch, radio, out of town shows, etc.
• Play an awesome show.
• Write at least one new song.
• Work with at least one new client.

This list will most likely change and mutate as the months go on, but for now I think this is a good starting point.

2010 starts tomorrow night.

I will be playing covers in a live karaoke band at a bar in Naperville.

It's a pretty sweet gig; it pays well, it's fun, and it's great practice.

But that is not where I'm going to be New Year's Eve 2011, I can promise you that!

Every day this year I will catalogue exactly what I do to make myself a bigger, better, richer person.

There is some old story about Harvard students who were asked what their goals were: a large percentage of those students had no specific goals, a smaller group had specific goals laid out in their heads, and the smallest minority of those students had actually written down their list of goals. As the legend goes, the students who physically wrote out their goals achieved much more success down the line.

I hope this blog will be a motivating factor in my life in a similar way. I hope to force myself to work every day for the sake of touting my achievements and recording my productivity here. I find nothing to be as influential as the opportunity to rub my successes in my own face.

This year (starting January 1, 2010), I will include an entry listing everything I have done to further my career and personal development each and every day, no matter what obstacles lie in my path (like shoddy internet access or hangovers, to name a few).

Tomorrow's entry (New Year's Eve, better known as December 31, 2009) will include a list of goals I am working towards.

Wish me luck!
